1903 Dolgellau Flood & Medal

This is a 1903 medal awarded to RICHARD EVANS.
The medal was very kindly sent to me by Dave Walker, who is Richard’s Great-Nephew.

Awarded to
RD. (Richard) EVANS
BY THE
Dolgelley Relief Committee
FOR HIS GALLANT CONDUCT
ON THE NIGHT OF
THE GREAT FLOOD
Sept. 9th 1903

Richard Evans (from Wrexham), married Elizabeth Florence “Flo”, who lived to be 102 (see newspaper article below).

They married in 1911 after a six-year courtship in Wales. Richard fought in WWI before becoming a painter and decorator. They later moved to Cambridge.

If anyone has any information about Richard, the medal, or the flood, please let me know.

A newspaper article about Elizabeth Florence “Flo” Evans on her 100th birthday in 1978.
